When Someone Finds the Words
How an unexpected encounter with horses became a new way to process grief through poetry and sound.
Sometimes creativity begins with an experience we never expected to become art.
After losing my beloved 16-year-old cat, I attended an equine session with Authentically U. The experience offered something I wasn’t necessarily looking for: a different space to process grief, slow down, and simply be present.
Afterward, I began writing.
The experience inspired a poem, which I then transformed through the Poetronica process into two new tracks for the upcoming The Misplaced Sessions: Volume II.
This month, Authentically U featured the story in its September newsletter, “When Someone Finds the Words.”
Kelly Tobin of Authentically U described the music as capturing “something so many of us have felt but struggled to describe: the quiet, powerful experience of being with horses and what can open within us in their presence.”
Her reaction to hearing it?
“I think it may be my new favorite song!”
It’s a meaningful reminder of how creativity can help us make sense of experiences that are difficult to articulate, and how poetry and music can give those experiences another way to be shared.
