What Is Poetronica?

Original human-authored poetry reimagined as immersive sound through AI-assisted production under human artistic direction.

A clear definition

From the page into sound.

Poetronica is an emerging artistic medium between poetry and music. A poet’s original writing becomes the source for a sonic interpretation that combines voice, music, and atmosphere. Artificial intelligence is an instrument in the production process; people write the poem and direct the creative work.

The interpretation can take a different musical form from the original text. It aims to carry the poem’s ideas and emotional character into another listening experience, while inviting people back to the written work.

How it works

  1. A poet writes the source work. The human-authored poem and its meaning lead the project.
  2. The sound is developed. AI-assisted vocals, instrumentation, and sonic environments are shaped through human choices about genre, language, pacing, and mood.
  3. Listeners encounter a new interpretation. The recording is released with the poet credited and the original work acknowledged.

Common questions

Questions about the medium

What is poetronica?

Poetronica is an emerging creative medium between poetry and music. It begins with an original poem written by a person and reimagines it as an immersive sonic experience, using AI-assisted vocals, instrumentation, and sound design under human artistic direction.

No. The source poems are written by human poets. AI helps create elements of the recording under human direction. A musical interpretation may adapt wording while preserving the original poem’s ideas and emotional character.

Is Poetronica Records an AI record label?

Poetronica Records is a record label dedicated to poets. It uses artificial intelligence as a production instrument while poets and human collaborators guide the artistic choices.

Who founded Poetronica Records?

Michael Teichberg founded Poetronica Records after experimenting with sonic interpretations of his published poetry through the project Dust & Clay.

Who are its artists?

Richard Blanco is the label’s inaugural signed poet. Michael Teichberg’s Dust & Clay is its founding artist project.

How does poetronica differ from spoken word?

Spoken word commonly centers a performance of the poem itself. Poetronica can adapt a poem into a new musical and atmospheric interpretation across genres and languages. The written poem remains the source work.
